Taos Mountain Alliance is dedicated to the protection of the environment, watersheds, and wildlife in the mountains around Taos, New Mexico. Our mountains are the source of clean water for our communities, wonders of the natural world, and the reason so many people come to visit year round. Taos’ Mountains are one of a kind and worth protecting.

Unique, wild, beautiful, and biologically diverse it is important that the Taos’ Mountains remain protected from development, poor management, recreational overuse, and fire. The communities of Taos, Taos’ history and traditions, flora and fauna, as well as recreationalists and other forest users rely on healthy and resilient Taos’ Mountains.

Other community organizations like Friends of the Rio Hondo are more significantly involved and taking action related to these environmental issues in the TSV. We collaborate and coordinate when possible. Some members of TMA are also members of the Taos Valley Acequia Association. We at TMA are appreciative of their attendance at our regular meetings.

Water Quality and Use …and Social Equity

We feel that these issues should have been given sufficient assessment related to the TSVI Projects (past approved and proposed). We anticipate that the CNF will realize that they were hasty in requiring only an environmental assessment for the 2021 proposed projects because of anticipated impacts. We anxiously await the next step in their process and look forward to a revised requirement to perform environmental impact studies related to these issues.
